Chairman’s Message

At a moment of profound geopolitical and economic change, the United States and Canada face both shared challenges and extraordinary opportunities. Our two countries are bound not only by geography, but by deeply integrated security, economic, and industrial interests that demand closer strategic alignment.

The United States Canada Institute was established to provide a trusted, non-partisan forum where leaders from both sides of the border can engage in serious, solutions-oriented dialogue. By convening government officials, industry leaders, and policy experts, the Institute advances cooperation across defense, trade, energy, technology, and the Arctic—areas essential to North American security, resilience, and global competitiveness.

The Institute’s location in the Ronald Reagan Building carries particular significance. It reflects a defining period in U.S.–Canada relations shaped by the leadership and partnership of President Ronald Reagan and Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, a time characterized by renewed strategic trust, economic integration, and close personal diplomacy between our two countries.

Situated on Pennsylvania Avenue—between Capitol Hill and the Embassy of Canada, and several minutes away from the White House—the Institute occupies a unique physical and symbolic position at the center of American governance and U.S.–Canada diplomacy. This location underscores the Institute’s mission to serve as a living bridge between policy, leadership and action.

I look forward to working with partners, donors and stakeholders committed to advancing a stronger, more integrated U.S.–Canada relationship.
